The Pennsylvania State Baptist Convention Submitted by Monique McKenny
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and
you will find;knock and it will be opened to you.”
Philippians 7:7
One weekend
out of the year the Pennsylvania State Baptist Congress (PSBC)
takes the time to educate and enrich the lives of teens
throughout the state. Through empowering and guiding
workshops, strong sermons and spiritual songs, the
convention manages to touch each and every child, adult,
and teen. I was so blessed to have the opportunity to attend
the convention over the weekend of October 25th.
I learned so many lessons that I can take with me through
the rest of my adolescence and truly, my life; however,
there are 2 specific teachings that stuck with me.
Philippians 4:6 states, “Be anxious for nothing, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving,
let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God,
which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts
and minds through Christ Jesus.” At the PSBC, in the very
first sermon we were taught to rely on God above all men for
anything we might need. We often fail to realize that we
are but man and cannot do for ourselves but we rely on God
for everything; we cannot even rise in the morning without
our Father.
Jesus, our Savior tells us in the Gospel of
Matthew, that, “No man can serve two masters; for either he
will hate the other or else he will be loyal to the one and
despise the other.” Leadership was the basis of the first
workshop I attended at the PSBC. Taught by our very own
Reverend Stacy King Chaney, we learned how we decide what
leads our lives. Through hands on activity, we started to
understand how if we serve God, we can serve no other, for
he must be first.
In closing, I would like to thank Mount
Carmel Baptist Church for blessing me with the amazing
opportunity to attend the Pennsylvania State Baptist
Convention. I made new friends from around the state,
learned about my Savior, spread the word in an evangelical
parade and bonded with my friends and mentors at Mount
Carmel. I would ask that MCBC continue to support PSBC
because the work being done there is definitely of the Lord.
So thank you again Pastor Campbell, Ms. Brenda, Mr. Jeff and
Rev. Chaney for their work in making my time at the PSBC a
truly blessed one.
If you have or know anyone between the ages
of 18-31 with a high school diploma, the Federal Aviation
Association is taking applications for air traffic
controller school.. With some effort they could reach a
salary of over $100,000 with benefits in about 3 years! You
need only a high school diploma to apply and credit is given
for college on the exam.

Fill out the application
immediately - even if they don't know if they'd want to
attend immediately - it's the federal government and it
may take them months to call. The key is to apply NOW. There
will be a lot of retirements coming up rather quickly and
they need to line up training to accommodate these openings.
It's my understanding that the FAA rarely has an open
application such as this and that the jobs are coveted. The
person who shared this has a 28 year old daughter who is
well into 6 figures and has plenty of time for travel/
recreation and has started another career on the side. This
is a great opportunity and it should be noted that choosing
a site like Anchorage or Indianapolis to train is a likely
acceptance into the training program after which you can
transfer anywhere in the country that has a tower.
