The Bread
Submitted by Brother
Frank Slayton
I would like to share with you in this issue a brief and
interesting enquiry concerning inarguably the most common
and often eaten food today. As a prepared food it has been
bartered, spoken of, shared and eaten amongst people since
the Old Testament time. It has been and is a part of
ceremonies and even food for the birds. Most of us enjoy
eating and sharing various kinds of ‘The Bread”.
Bread is considered to be a complex carbohydrate.
Doctors Eades, a husband and wife medical-scientist team,
authored a book entitled ‘Protein Power Plan.’ They allege
that we have become addicted to this regularly consumed
carbohydrate more so than any other food.
Well looking at many of us, their conclusion may bear
some real truth.
However, this
is not the reason I have chosen
this topic for our review, inspection and meditation.
Have you ever thought about why bread has
played such an integral part of our scripture; a
supernaturally provided food, (Ex. 16.35) a ceremonial
offering, (Ex. 29:25) sacrificial food (2Chor.2:4) and the
body of our Lord and Savior? (Jn. 6:35.48) Well I don’t know
why God ultimately created ‘The Bread.’ He has used it for
various different purposes throughout scripture. It does
appear to be a great lesson for God’s people with regard to
its position as a food, commodity, memorial and as a
foreshadowing of the image of Christ. (The Bread of Life)
In conclusion, ‘The Bread’ has been used to
show us a description, a physical/ spiritual nourishment,
instruction, a historical lesson and, most of all, an
intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior until His
return.
