Annual Church Auxiliary Sunday
By Rita

Many people believe that leadership is
simply being the first, the biggest or the most powerful.
Leadership in organizations has a far more different
meaning. Webster defines a leader as someone who sets
direction and influences people to follow that direction. In
Mount Carmel Church we have many leaders. First and
foremost, is our Shepherd Reverend Albert F. Campbell
our leader and our guide. Then there are those leaders in
our church family known and unknown.
On Auxiliary Sunday, November 22nd we
celebrated our Church’s leadership team – the officers and
members who provide service and are dedicated to the Vision
and Mission of our church. We also celebrated those leaders
who were designated as Our Emeritus Honorees.
The Devotional period, led by our Deacons,
set the tone for the morning. We sang “Blessed Assurance”
and “Love Lifted Me.” The Introit was “All People of God.”
The Processional Hymn was “When We All Get to Heaven.” Our
Church Choir led the procession followed by the Presidents
of our auxiliaries and guilds. Church was ‘in session.’ Our
ushers reflected the diversity of our church men and
women, boys and girls, young and old watching over us as the
church service continued.
The themes of faithfulness, love and
friendship resonated as we passed the peace between us and
between members of the congregation in one service bound by
our love of Christ.
Pastor was our guest preacher and boy did he
preach. The sermon was “On Claiming the Hill Country.”
Our Church Treasurer, Yvonne M. Hayden, gave
the fiancial report. And, then “We Paused to Honor Some of
the Faithful.”
Mr. Edwin S. Lockley, resplendent in a white
suit, provided the final remarks. I am so glad that we
celebrate our leaders for what they do and how they do it.
They provide the backbone for the work that we as a church
must do to remain a viable force in the West Philadelphia
community.
To God Be The Glory!!!!
